Comprehensive Lecture and Hands-on Workshop on “PERIOLASE” Dental Laser at SRMKDC
The Department of Periodontology, SRM Kattankulathur Dental College & Hospital (SRMKDC&H), hosted a one-day comprehensive session on the application of dental lasers titled PERIOLASE. The program featured both a lecture and a hands-on workshop, led by guest speaker Dr. Devi Arul, Associate Professor, Sri Ramachandra Dental College, SRIHER, Chennai.
Faculty members, postgraduates, undergraduates, and CRIs from SRMKDC actively participated in the event.
Scope of the Program
The workshop offered participants an in-depth understanding of dental lasers, starting from the fundamentals to advanced clinical applications in Periodontology. The afternoon session featured a live demonstration, followed by hands-on training where participants performed clinical procedures using lasers on chicken leg pieces and vegetables. This gave attendees valuable exposure to advanced techniques in both clinical and cosmetic laser dentistry.
Event Overview
A total of 28 participants, including CRIs and faculty members from various departments of SRMKDC, attended the program. Each delegate received a workshop folder with the necessary stationery for the day.
The inauguration commenced at 9:00 AM, graced by Dr. N. Vivek, Dean, SRMKDC&H, Dr. K. T. Mahesh, Vice Principal, and guest speaker Dr. Devi Arul.
Dr. N. Vivek delivered the inaugural address, inspiring participants with his insightful words. Dr. A. V. Saravanan, Professor, Department of Periodontology, SRMKDC&H, then outlined the program flow and highlighted the importance of dental lasers in contemporary clinical practice.
The guest speaker was felicitated by Dr. N. Vivek, followed by a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. P. S. Viola Esther, Assistant Professor, Department of Periodontology, SRMKDC&H.
Session Highlights
At 10:00 AM, Dr. Devi Arul delivered the first lecture on Introduction to Basic Principles of LASERS and Applications of Lasers in Periodontology, which ran until 11:00 AM. The hands-on session took place from 11:30 AM to 1:30 PM at the Department of Periodontology, where participants practised laser procedures on models.
The program concluded with the distribution of participation certificates for both the lecture and hands-on components, followed by a lunch gathering.
The workshop successfully equipped participants with practical skills and enhanced their understanding of laser applications in modern periodontal therapy.
