BDS
The mandatory academic curriculum formatted by Dental Council of India (DCI) for BDS is strictly followed by SRM Kattankulathur Dental College. The curriculum has been designed to train the dental graduates to acquire adequate knowledge, necessary skills and reasonable attitudes, which are required for carrying out all activities appropriate to general dental practice involving prevention, diagnosis and treatment of anomalies and diseases of teeth, mouth, jaws and associated tissues. The graduates are also trained to understand the concept of community oral health and be able to participate in the rural health care programmes existing in the country.
BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) is a 5-year course comprising of 4 years of study and 1 year of compulsory rotary internship (CRI). According to DCI norms, 100 students are admitted per year. The dental degree comprises of 1st 2 years of basic sciences where all the systems of human body are taught, followed by 3 years of clinical work experience where skills of the student towards practicing dentistry are stimulated. In this course, the students are taught about dental problems and surgery. It is also a good job-oriented degree programme, and various opportunities are available in hospital, pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturing industries. BDS is a degree given to a person who plays the vital role in the treatment of problems related to teeth. The dentist prevents, diagnoses and cures all oral and facial diseases. The candidate who is aspiring for a BDS degree should opt for a science stream which contains physics, chemistry, and biology as the core subjects.
The candidate should have a plus 2 pass certificate cum NEET eligibility. The student is admitted to the dental course by their NEET score (National Eligibility cum Entrance Test), which is organized at national level.
It is very challenging to pursue BDS, and you should have the enthusiasm, hard-working attitude in the study and a focused mind for doing course. It is the course which will be having hands-on training in the field of dentistry for the duration of 5 years. The students will get a practical knowledge of the diseases. Dentistry by itself is a super specialty. According to a saying, “Face is the index of mind” The facial appearance of the patient is modified and corrected by a dentist. The BDS course does not deal only with the teeth but rather the body as a whole. A dentist sculpts the teeth (oral cavity) in order to provide better esthetics.

SRM Kattankulathur Dental College& Hospital I Year BDS Admission 2022-2023
Admission to BDS (UG) at SRM Katt. Dental College& Hospital , Potheri, Kattankulathur will be selected through Common counseling by DGHS (MCC). Those candidates, who get selected for admissions, should report to the Dean between 10 am to 5 pm as per the schedule issued by MCC. The following certificates in original and photocopies wherever required to be submitted.
