National Periodontist Day Celebrated at SRM Kattankulathur Dental College & Hospital

The Department of Periodontology at SRM Kattankulathur Dental College and Hospital celebrated National Periodontist Day on 23 February 2026, marking the founding of the Indian Society of Periodontology in 1975.

The celebration focused on raising awareness about periodontal health, its strong connection to systemic well-being, and the critical role of periodontists in comprehensive patient care. The day brought together postgraduate students, interns, and faculty members for an engaging academic and celebratory experience.

Dr. Saravanan MDS, Professor & Head of the Department of Periodontology, highlighted the clinical importance of Periodontology and emphasised the evolving scope of the specialty in modern dental practice. His address set a purposeful and enthusiastic tone for the day.

Guest Lecture on Periodontal Microsurgery

A guest lecture delivered by Dr. C.P. Divakar MDS, Professor of Periodontology at Karpaga Vinayaga Institute of Dental Sciences.

Dr. C.P. Divakar presented an insightful session on Periodontal Microsurgery, tracing the evolution of surgical precision within the speciality. He elaborated on the use of magnification systems, advanced microsurgical instruments, and minimally invasive techniques that enhance clinical outcomes and patient comfort. The lecture sparked active academic engagement among postgraduate students, interns, and faculty members.

The occasion was honoured by the presence of Dr. N. Vivek MDS, Dean, SRMKDC and Dr. K. T. Magesh MDS, Vice Principal of SRM Kattankulathur Dental College & Hospital.

Following the lecture, a series of scientific and creative competitions was conducted. A total of 67 participants registered for the competitive events, demonstrating remarkable enthusiasm and academic spirit.

The celebrations continued with interactive activities such as Dumb Charades and Pictionary, adding energy and camaraderie to the academic proceedings and creating a lively, memorable atmosphere.

The event concluded with a formal valedictory ceremony in the presence of the departmental faculty.
Dr. A. V. Saravanan MDS (Professor) distributed certificates and prizes to the winners of the various competitions. Special appreciation was extended to the 70 registered participants whose enthusiasm and high-quality presentations contributed significantly to the success of the event.

The celebration concluded with a vote of thanks delivered by Dr. V. Kalaivani MDS, Associate Professor, who expressed sincere gratitude to Dr. Saravanan MDS (Professor & HOD), the faculty members, students, and all contributors for their unwavering support and coordination in making National Periodontist Day 2026 a grand success.
