The Indian Orthodontic Society (IOS) officially launched its flagship initiative, Smiling Bharath 2.0, in Chennai at SRM Kattankulathur Dental College and Hospital (SRMIST). The event marked a significant step in the nationwide mission to raise awareness about orthodontic care and promote better oral health across India.
The launch ceremony commenced with the symbolic IOS flag-waving, led by Dr. Gnanashanmugam, Vice President of the Indian Orthodontic Society. He was joined by a distinguished panel, including Dr. Gnanashanmugam (Vice President, IOS), alongside Dr. C. Deepak (Past Honorary Secretary, IOS & Head of Orthodontics, SRMKDC), Dr. C. Vijayadhith (Convenor, Madras Orthodontic Study Group), Dr. N. Vivek (Dean, SRMKDC), Dr. KT Magesh (Vice Principal, SRMKDC) and Dr. Deenadayalan P (Professor, Orthodontics) & Team.
Following the ceremonial flag-off, an Orthodontic Smile Awareness Rally was flagged off from Java Green. The rally witnessed vibrant participation from undergraduate and postgraduate students, as well as faculty members, creating an energetic atmosphere of enthusiasm and commitment towards the cause.
As part of the Smiling Bharath 2.0 initiative, 50 patients were screened on-site by the team, and their data was uploaded to the national Smiling Bharath platform. This grassroots effort reflects the broader vision of the IOS to make orthodontic care more accessible and to educate communities about the importance of early diagnosis and treatment.
The event underscored the collaborative efforts of SRMKDC and the Indian Orthodontic Society in championing oral health and reinforcing the significance of a confident, healthy smile.
