Systematic Review for Clinicians – A Road Map for Publication
The Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at SRM Kattankulathur Dental College and Hospital organised an enlightening one-day workshop on “Systematic Review for Clinicians: A Roadmap for Publication” on November 7, 2023, showcasing the department’s commitment to academic excellence. Under the dynamic leadership of the Dean and Head of the Department of OMFS, Prof. Dr. Vivek N, and the organising team, which included Dr. Kartik and Dr. Prashanti, along with other faculty members and postgraduate students, the event aimed to empower participants with the skills necessary for conducting systematic reviews and meta-analyses.
The workshop featured well-known, knowledgeable, young, and energetic speakers who engaged in healthy interactive discussions with the participants. The workshop covered a comprehensive range of topics related to systematic reviews: research question and PICOST format, keywords and search strategy, study selection and data extraction, data synthesis, risk of bias, meta-analysis, manuscript writing, and more.
A total of 76 enthusiastic participants from various disciplines of the medical and dental fields registered and actively participated in the workshop. The event provided a platform for acquiring knowledge and skills essential for evidence-based decision-making in research and clinical practice. The workshop was deemed a great success and a valuable learning experience by all participants. The acquired knowledge and skills will empower them to conduct periodic reviews and meta-analyses and contribute to evidence-based decision-making in their respective fields. Feedback received from participants indicates a positive impact, with expectations that the workshop will encourage the use of systematic reviews and meta-analyses in their future research and practice endeavors.
