PERIO eaze 2026: Laser Workshop on Laser Dentistry

The Department of Periodontology, SRM Kattankulathur Dental College and Hospital, organised PERIO eaze 2026 – Laser Workshop on 1 October 2026 at Lecture Hall 2, SRM Kattankulathur Dental College, Potheri. The workshop, themed “Laser Dentistry: Principles, Practice and Clinical Applications,” aimed to provide Compulsory Rotatory Interns (CRIs) with theoretical knowledge and practical exposure to the principles and clinical applications of laser dentistry. A total of 35 CRIs participated in the programme.

The programme commenced with a welcome address by Dr. Subhasri, II Year Postgraduate, Department of Periodontology. Dr. A. V. Saravanan, Head of the Department of Periodontology, formally welcomed the guest speaker, Dr. Suganya Selvarangam, MDS, Prosthodontist and Implantologist, and Founder of Laser India Academy.

Dr. Suganya Selvarangam delivered an insightful lecture on the fundamentals of laser dentistry, covering the principles of laser technology, its mechanism of action and its various clinical applications in modern dental practice.

The inaugural session was attended by the Dean, Heads of various departments and faculty members. As a mark of appreciation, the guest speaker was felicitated with a memento and certificate by Dr. Vivek N., Dean, and Dr. A. V. Saravanan, Head of the Department of Periodontology. Dr. Rajapandian delivered the vote of thanks, expressing gratitude to the guest speaker, institutional leadership, faculty members, organisers and participants.

The workshop continued with two hands-on sessions, providing participants with practical exposure to laser technology. The first session, held from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., featured demonstrations on laser operation, equipment handling and clinical applications. The second session, conducted from 2:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m., offered participants further hands-on experience in the clinical application of lasers.

The programme concluded with the distribution of certificates of participation to all 35 CRIs by the guest speaker and faculty members of the Department of Periodontology.

PERIO eaze 2026 provided a valuable learning platform for budding dental professionals, bridging theoretical knowledge with practical experience and enhancing their understanding of laser technology and its applications in contemporary dental practice.
